With 300 days of sunshine, the Languedoc-Rousillon offers a year round opportunity to experience the surrounding scenery with its stunning gorges, lakes and vineyards.

The department of Aude boasts a rich historical heritage, with the stunning Cathar castles on many of the hilltops, the mystery of Rennes-les-Chateau and the magnificent medieval city of Carcassonne.

Belvianes et Cavirac is a small village (approx 300 people) nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees at the entrance to the Gorges Pierre Lys, with the river Aude running through the middle. Choice of two excellent local restaurants, just five minutes walk away, offering regional food and wine.

Quillan, the local market town (4km away) offers all amenities such as banks, shops, restaurants, boulangerie, boucherie etc.

The area is ideal for outdoor pursuits including walking, water sports (white water rafting within village), cycling (Tour de France goes through village), climbing, caving etc. plus ski-ing in the winter season.

Other places of interest include:

  • Thermal pool at Rennes-les-Bains - open all year round.
  • Perpignan - gateway to Spain, full of history and wonderful for shopping in the old and the new quarters.
  • Mirepoix - wonderful medieval town with famous market square - the entire perimeter is rimmed by old beams and wooden heads. Each carving is individual.
  • Gorge de Galamus - amazing limestone gorge worn through the ridge by the river Agly.
  • Mediterrenean beaches just over 1 hour away. Miles of safe sandy beaches.
  • Sentier Cathar (walking route through the Pyrenees)
  • Countless castles and old villages, vineyards, and of course, the Pyrenees!
